Turkey firmly believes that the economic and social threats, particularly poverty, infectious diseases, environmental degradation, natural and man-made disasters should be addressed by the international community as an integral part of global collective security, without losing sight of benefits of development as a pillar by its own.
As our leaders reaffirmed at the 2005 World Summit, internationally agreed development goals, including MDG`s are too important to fail. Turkey, as a strong advocate of effective multilateralism, believes that the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social and related fields have a vital role in shaping a broad development vision. In order to create a better and prosperous world for all and for future generations we, members of the international community have to act effectively to eradicate poverty, achieve sustained economic growth and promote sustainable development.
Turkey, on its part, is committed to implementing the global development agenda. In this context, Turkey has rendered full support to the activities of the United Nations in all fields and wishes to further contribute to the promotion of international peace, security and prosperity.
Turkey, after successfully overcoming the economic crises in 2001, has gradually increased its voluntary contributions to United Nations funds, programmes and agencies, as well as other relevant international organizations. A detailed list of the voluntary contributions is enclosed herewith.(*)
In line with its "emerging donor status, Turkey will continue to further contribute to the global security and development agenda and lend its support to the humanitarian emergencies through international as well bilateral channels.
(*) The attached list does not reflect Turkey`s Official Development Assistance, nor does it include Turkey`s bilateral assistance and humanitarian aid to the third countries and Turkey`s voluntary contributions to the regional organizations.
